Bill is one of the founding partners of SBIS. He started his insurance experience with Liberty Mutual in 1989 working as a sales Representative, which is where he met his future business partner Mark Carroll. He then moved to being a broker for a small family agency and then on to Kaiser Permanente in 1995, again joining forces with Mark Carroll, as the top Sales Representative before striking out to start SBIS in 1998.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, Bill now resides in Leesburg with his wife, three children and one big hairy dog. In his spare time you will find him engaged in many of the children’s activities otherwise he enjoys golfing, snowboarding, playing poker and traveling whenever the children allow them to.

Mark is the other founding partner of SBIS. Mark began his insurance career at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in November of 1989, left to join Kaiser Permanente for a career in Sales and Sales Management from 1991 to 1999, and then joined forces with Bill Schmidt, whom he had worked with since his time at Liberty Mutual, to start SBIS in 1998.

Raised in north western Pennsylvania, Mark relocated to Fairfax in 1987, and completed college at George Mason University in May of 1989. Mark has been married 13 years, has three daughters and enjoys golfing, boating, and boxing.

Valerie is the newest member of the SBIS team. She attended Mary Washington University, and brings over 15 years of combined experience in the teaching and medical office fields as well as a genuine love of working with people.

Valerie lives in Leesburg, Virginia. She has 2 children in college, and 2 dogs still at home. When she has spare time, she greatly enjoys decorating projects and getting together with friends.
